How to get to Skye
By road
Driving to Skye from Inverness or Glasgow takes you past breathtaking scenery and centuries of history. You can reach Skye through magnificent Glen Shiel or imposing Lochcarron so it’s worth picking a different route on your way home. Buses to Skye from Inverness and Glasgow run daily. Consult the AA’s route planner for more information.
By ferry
Although the Skye Bridge is now the main link to the island, you can still go ‘over the sea to Skye’. Caledonian MacBrayne operates the ferry from Mallaig to Armadale. For an island hopping journey Uig in the north of Skye links to Tarbert on Harris and Lochmaddy on North Uist. See CalMac’s website for more information.
By train
The Highland Sleeper train is probably the most romantic way to reach Skye. The train takes you to Fort William or Inverness but you’ll need to hire a car for the last leg. Normal train services operate between Inverness and the Kyle of Lochalsh and also between Fort William and Mallaig. Visit the National Rail Enquiries website for more information.
